Margaret Colvin, dedicated painter and collage artist, has a presentation and style all of her own. Margaret lives in Houston where she also maintains her studio. In the 90’s, while painting commissioned pieces for a local Houston restaurant, Margaret found that many people were drawn to her unique style.
Studying at the University of Texas, the Art League of Houston, and the Watercolor Society has given her the ability and knowledge to discover, expand and continually challenge her technique. Having served as vice-president of Visual Art Alliance for four terms and as a member of Women in Literary and Visual Arts, Margaret is active in the art community.
Her paintings, a mix of acrylics and oil pastels, offer vibrant energy to their surroundings, from bold and colorful abstracts to eclectic collages. As she continues to grow, her artwork is ever changing and evolving. This is in large part what creates the excitement for Margaret as well as for her clients. Her mini pieces of art note cards have been recently added to her list of offerings.
Subtlety has become the newest part of Margaret’s evolving repertoire, reflected in a series of paintings known as her “Wash Series”. These recent works are expressive yet subtle paintings of pale blue, yellow and green colors that have a calming and meditative quality. She works in multiple layers allowing a rich build-up of colors, creating depth and complexity to each piece. She wants the viewer to look inward and explore the uniqueness of the piece.
