Margaret Colvin, abstract painter and collage artist has a style and presentation all her own. As her paintings move toward abstraction, the rules begin to change. Not only do the color choices become more arbitrary, but spatial relationships are also manipulated expressively.
Various components are used in her work: acrylics, oil pastels, molding paste, sand, and pumice gel which are applied to range of mediums: canvas, wood, paper and Plexiglas. Not conforming to one medium allows her to expand, explore and experiment; continually refining her technique.
Her mixed media collages are meant to be intimate and thought provoking. One often finds a humorous or unexpected element within each piece. She enjoys collecting and working with various materials – worn papers, letters, book pages, painting fragments, candy wrappers, string and netting - anything to create a tactile surface.
Through the years, Margaret has completed commission pieces throughout Texas and Colorado and her work is in numerous private and corporate collections locally.
