Contemporary artist, Margaret Colvin has explored the many facets of abstraction; employing mixed media to create paintings and collages with a sense of style and presentation all her own. Not being confined to only one medium enables her to experiment, explore, and evolve; consistently refining her technique.

Her recent paintings render a softer organic color palette allowing the characteristics and flaws of the piece to become more prominent and defined. The emphasis is on the enormous amount of space and the balance of color creates a strong visual tension and interest between the two elements. As her paintings move toward abstraction, the rules begin to change. Not only do the color choices become more arbitrary, but spatial relationships are also manipulated expressively.

Her mixed media collages are meant to be intimate and thought provoking. One often finds a humorous or unexpected element within each piece. She enjoys collecting and working with various materials – worn papers, letters, book pages, painting fragments, candy wrappers, string and netting - anything to create a tactile surface.

Through the years, Margaret has completed commission pieces throughout Texas and Colorado and her work is in numerous private and corporate collections.
